Carrollton's Junior High received a Fairchild Challenge award of $500 toward its
choice'bf environmental programs a?a result of scoring in the top five of 77 schools
competing in the Middle School Fairchild Challenge 2008. Gabrjela Granda was
recognized as an environmental role model for her two-year contribution to the Junior
High Ecology Club. The Junior High participated in ten inividual challenges throughout
the year Winning honorable mentions as follows: Megan Rickborn and Shaina
Doliny for "The Patterns of Plants," Francis Swanson for "Design a Plant," Gabriela
de Souza for "Baynanza T-shirt Designs," Lauren Guilford for "Fairchild Challenge
T-shirt Designs," and group awards for "Water in Words" and "Newsletter in Two
Languages." The other challenges for which the Junior High earned points are: "Plant
and Paper Hats," "Pattern of Plants in Photography," "My Green School," "Pollinator
Corridors," "Green Treasures: Traditional Uses of Plants," "Environmental Action," and
"School Garden and Habitat Restoration."
