The Scholastic Art &• Writing Award is the
nation s highest honor and largest source
of scholarships for creative teenagers.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools
presented the regional awards during a
ceremony on January 25. Isabella Vizoso
_ 15 was granted Honorable Mention for
her Safety Pin Skirt artwork. Isabella was
accepted into the fashion program at the
prestigious London College of Fashion.
Carrollton meets Cuban Art

On Friday September 19th, Carrollton IB Art students welcomed the accomplished art historian, Dr. Juan Martinez.
While he spoke about Cuban artist, Fidelio Ponce de Leon, students took notes and asked questions, expanding their
knowledge of Cuban art. Dr. Martinez also presented a slide show of Ponce's artwork, which the students enjoyed.
Dr. Martinez is a professor Emeritus at FIU, where he taught courses in 20th century Art History. He is also the author of
three books on Cuban art and numerous essays on the subject of modern Cuban art and the art of Cuban-Americans.
