Dig the Cure

Bake sales, ]-sh:rts and spirited teams - Carrollton participated in its 5th annual Dig Pink
More than 100 athletes from Carrollton and Ransom Everglades schools competed in a series o f
Dig Pink swimming and volleyball tournaments to benefit the Side-O ut Foundation. From 3 :3 0
to 9 p.m. athletes did their best as a crowd o f people cheered them on. Many students from both
schools attended along with parents, faculty, and supporters o f awareness about Breast Cancer.1
Over the past five years, the Carrollton/Ransom Dig Pink event has raised more than $ 3 0 ,0 0 0
for the Side-Out Foundation, the financial arm o f the Dig Pink event, and this year, more than
$ 3 5,00 0 was raised.
The Side-O ut Foundation raises awareness about Breast Cancer and funds many research projects
to fight breast cancer, “Its a great way to uphold school spirit and to recognize what a great cause
our teams are supporting,” says Ms. Ramirez, Carrollton’s Dean o f Students.
This year, Carrollton’s Junior High volleyball teams, High School Junior Varsity and Varsity volleyball teams, and Junior High and Varsity swim teams
participated. Ms, Lallier, Carrollton Swim Coach comments, "O ur team is so supportive, loving, and spirited! Each girl brings a special talent, spirit,
and energy to our team.”
Carrollton students organized bake, sales and sold headbands, bracelets, and T-shirts to prepare for the event. Sales were made o f everything from
baked goods to pink accessories. The money raised went to the S ide-O ut Foundation,
1 liked all the hype! They had shirts, bake sales, the teams Were really Spirited, everyone was excited, and I guess what I liked the most was that
it was a really fun Way to celebrate an im portant cause,” Miss Ramirez adds. Carrollton had a great year participating in Dig Pink. The school looks
forward to raising more funds and awareness for the Side-O ut Foundation in the future.
