Anyone who has spent time at a Sacred Heart school knows how dear Mater
Adrriirabilis is to the community The original fresco. pamted by Sacred Heart
novice Pauline Perdrau in 1844, has been the inspiration for numerous versions
of this work, displayed reverently in Sacred Heart schools throughout the world.
Starting in 2004, Mary Aldrich was commissioned to create a series of murals
on both the Duchesne and Barat campuses, as well as. the restoration of El
Jardrn. The Barat campus'Mater was the first of many significant murals Ms.
Aldrich painted.
"When I see Mater as a young woman in quiet reflection, it shows me the
importance of introspection in my own life," said Ms Aldrich,
While the Barat Mater portrays

de Lescure, R5CJ. Mary also painted the Michael the Archangel mural outside Founders
Library and the Philippine Duchesne mural in Taylor Hall. The Philippine Duchesne mural is
an allegorical painting portraying her journey from France to the New World.
"My inspiration for the paintings I've done at Carrollton Comes from witnessing Lhe
dedication of Sister Cooke, Sister Taylor and Sister Seitz, to the education of Carrollton
students. Their commitment to creating sacred spaces among the architectural features
of the Carrollton campus allows the students to learn visually in everyday places like a
breezeway wall, or a library ceiling," said Ms. Aldrich
