Emotional Flexibility
Emotional Flexibility is the skill of being able to look at the big
picture when things go wrong – to be able to think about how
serious the problem is and match our feelings accurately.
▪ For example, if someone was on an overnight trip and was missing
their family, someone with emotional flexibility would think:
“I am missing my family but I will not be away forever. I can have
fun here and look forward to seeing them when I get back.”
▪ For example, if a person dropped their phone and the screen
smashed, someone with emotional flexibility would think:
“This is upsetting, but it is only a phone. It can be fixed. I may
have to save up for it but nobody is hurt.”
