The Empowerment Approach Modules
Course 1: Shifting Mindset & Introduction to the Empowerment Approach
This course looks at the issues around the use of traditional behaviourist approaches and
the impact these can have over time. It goes on to explore the key ingredients needed within
an approach to secure long-term, sustainable progress whilst protecting the needs and
rights of all. The module finishes with an introduction to the Empowerment Approach, its
key goals and how it differs from other approaches.
Course 2: Our Brain Needs: What We Need to be at Our Best
This course presents a structure accessible to all ages to understand the physical,
emotional and cognitive needs we all have to be at our ‘Brain Best’. It provides a set of tools
to explore our unique needs along with strategies for meeting these sufficiently well to feel
great and do well in school, at home and beyond. This unit guides participants through a
structure for giving children the language to communicate their needs positively and
become strong self-advocates (rather than communicating through ‘unhelpful responses’).
Course 3: The Neurobiology of Success & Stress
This course guides participants through the neurobiology (our body’s chemistry) of success
and struggles. It explains the brain and body science underpinning helpful and unhelpful
behaviours and strategies for taking charge of our neurobiology, rather than leaving it to
chance. The unit supports children in understanding the neurobiology behind their words
and actions and learning how to manage the stressors of life, so they build resilience and
keep going when life gets tough.
