Repair (Restorative Justice) is great, but not enough alone
▪ Restorative justice is frequently offered as the alternative to punitive approaches.
▪ Restorative justice is great for developing social cognition and emotional intelligence and for repairing relationships.
▪ It does not address the reason the child struggled in the first place – their unmet needs and missing skills.
▪ If I crash into your car, I can restore justice with gifts and funding repairs. Yet, it will not make me a better driver tomorrow. I
need to address why it went wrong and what will help it to improve for that to happen.
