BUILDING
Positive and enriching experiences are not just a bonus – they actually help
build strong brain circuits in the brain. 1
▪ Early brain circuits form the base for later, more complex circuits. If early
2 connections fail to build, it is harder to build later ones.
▪ Like a house, children need strong foundations.
The later the building of brain networks takes place, the harder it is and 3
longer it takes – so it is best to start early, if you can.
The good news is that it is possible to build new brain circuitry at any age.
4 When we repeat something, the circuits in our brain become stronger and
faster, and that skill becomes easier.
By actively practising the skills we want to improve at, we can build new, 5
stronger circuitry.
