THE ACTIVE READING METHOD: PREVIEW
(the big scan)
▪ Take a look at the cover, the title and any sub-titles or
chapter headings. What clues do they give you?
▪ What genre or type of book is it? Fiction? Non-fiction?
▪ For non-fiction books, what do you expect it to be about?
What could you predict? What might you learn from it?
▪ Now have a quick scan of the text (that means having a
quick look to work out what it is about).
▪ Can you work out any of the characters’ names? Their
jobs? Where it takes place?
