THE ACTIVE READING METHOD:
When we have slower processing, it can take longer to make sense of
what we are reading. This means we can forget parts we have just read.
The Active Reading method is great for people with slower, stronger
thinking speeds.
Passive Reading Active Reading
▪ Get started straight away ▪ Use the cover, title and any
contents to predict what the book
▪ Say the words on the page might be about
rather than think about
▪ Think about what you already know
them
▪ Work out the questions you want
▪ Don’t take notes to ask and answer
▪ Stop after each paragraph / section
▪ Let the information or story
to say what you have read in your
come to you rather than
own words
actively looking for it
▪ Stop after each paragraph to see if
it answers any of your questions
▪ The goal is to learn something new
