Tracking stressors can be helpful for some young people (and adults!).
KEY MESSAGE 22 - it is THE CHILD that needs to understand their 5 C
Needs and how well they are met.
Using Likert scales, we can help them decide how well they are met now and what
could happen to meet them better.
It can be as simple as getting them to notice when they feel really pleasant or
unpleasant.
▪ Where and when do they feel most comfortable? Connected? Capable? Like they
count? In control?
▪ What is it like at school? Home? Out with friends? What helps them to feel like that?
We get children to mark each need on a scale as shown above – even teens sometimes
quite like our warm fuzzies and cold pricklies!
0 would be neutral, 10 yellow fuzzies would be when the need is met brilliantly and it
feels great. 10 red prickly would be not met at all and it feels really unpleasant.
This can help give information about how they experience unmet and met needs too.
It can be eye opening! It also helps to work out priorities.
