Speak Up 4 Better: a tool for sharing concerns
▪ Starting with hard evidence with what you saw and heard is less likely to put people on the
defensive.
▪ Saying how you interpreted the evidence helps people understand your perspective. By hearing
your interpretation, they get the chance to say whether your interpretation matches their intention.
▪ Letting the person know the impact on you practically & emotionally is more likely to result
in empathy than telling them they are selfish, annoying, disruptive etc.
▪ Letting them know what would be better for you is CRUCIAL if you want things to improve.
