Strong Flexibility
Checklist
SKILL I DEMONSTRATED THIS SKILL
6. I CAN BE EMOTIONALLY FLEXIBLE & LOOK AT THE WIDER PICTURE
a. When things go wrong, I am able to recognise accurately how big a deal the issue
is and react in a way that is about right for the size and seriousness of the issue.
b. When something is difficult, disappointing or frustrating, I can tolerate the
unpleasant feeling and stay in control of my emotions long enough to problem solve
in ways that work for everyone.
c. When I feel an unpleasant feeling such as frustration, sadness, jealousy, shame or
disappointment, I know that experiencing a range of emotions is normal and there
will be happier moments ahead. I can remind myself that it will not last forever and
use positive, helpful strategies to soothe myself.
d. When things are not as I would like, I can take a wider perspective e.g. If I want
pizza but there is none left, I can soothe myself with thoughts that there will be
other times to eat pizza and there are other foods available which I can enjoy now.
e. When things do not turn out as I would have liked, I can recognise and focus on
the positives going on for me.
