SKILL I DEMONSTRATED THIS SKILL
2 I CAN TOLERATE NEWNESS & UNCERTAINTY & ADAPT TO CHANGE
Part i MANAGING NEWNESS, UNFAMILIARTY & UNCERTAINTY
a. I am willing to try new experiences and understand it may not feel completely
comfortable at the start and I may find it harder for a while – I can tolerate the
unpleasant feeling of newness and challenge.
b. I can manage meeting new people or being paired with or sitting next to someone I
do not know.
c. When something is new or unfamiliar, I can remember that it will feel normal after a
while e.g. When I move house or school, I know that one day this will feel just as
comfortable and familiar as the home or school I am in now.
d. I cope ok with uncertainty, e.g. not knowing which class I will be in next year,
talking it through if I need to.
e. I can accept when something is unclear, when there is not a specific answer to
something or when there are different possibilities (i.e. when something is a bit
‘grey’ and there is not a ‘black and white’ answer. For example, “Can you tell me if
it will rain today?”). 3
