How the Brain Develops: Part 4

Let’s say you start a new hobby - skateboarding.

At the start, the electrical signals would be slow. It would

be hard to balance and move your body in the right way.

                                                                                                                  Your reactions may be

                                                                                                                  slower than people who

                                                                                                                  have skateboarded for

                                                                                                                  years.

                                                                                                                  You may keep falling.

If you practised again and again, the

part of your brain used for balancing

would become denser – there would

be thicker brain circuits and more of

            them.

It would start to feel easier to balance

and move your body in the right way.

This is because the electrical signals

            would be stronger and faster.

You will have shaped your brain for skateboarding!
