Endorphins
▪ Endorphins are the body’s natural pain inhibitor.
▪ Endorphins are known to be released during intense exercise.
They are often known as the ‘runner’s high’.
▪ From an evolutionary basis, they were designed to mask pain
so the person could keep going and escape.
▪ It is thought that they may also be released when we enjoy a
great big belly laugh.
▪ There is evidence to suggest that endorphins are also released
when eating spicy food and high cocoa chocolate.
▪ Endorphins have been found to be effective in improving
symptoms of depression.
