Research by Narayan etc al (2018)
and later by Bethell (2019) has
shown that a set of experiences
known as ‘Positive & Benevolent
Childhood Experiences’ are also
crucial for a person’s good mental
and physical health (in other words,
it isn’t enough just to focus on
prevention of Adverse Childhood
Experiences).
People who had these Benevolent
& Positive Childhood experiences
are more likely to lead healthy and
successful lives.
It is therefore imperative that we
push all adults supporting a child to
secure these experiences for all
children, particularly our
vulnerable children.
Behaviourist approaches used in
schools have a detrimental impact
on these vital childhood
experiences.
