5. Make it real:

Focus on the natural consequences of keeping to and not keeping

to expectations (see next slide) – rather than points, prizes &

sanctions.

By doing so, we focus children on the impact of their behaviour on

others and thereby increase emotional intelligence.

When the focus is on punishment,

children tend to instead focus on

themselves and become filled with

self pity.
