Making it real continued:
Part of follow-up is supporting the child to consider how they can
make amends with anyone who has been impacted by their words
or actions (we will return to this in our unit on ‘Repair’).
We must recognise that it is due
to stressors being too great for their
current skill set that some children
struggle to meet expectations; they
are not simply ‘being bad’.
However, we must also help children take responsibility for any
negative impact of their difficulties and teach different ways to
make amends (not just by forcing the child to ‘say sorry’).
