consider taking the witness to the scene

Was it a long or short name?
Did it begin with A, B, C etc.?
                                               What did it sound like?
What would be your best guess?
Why do you think that guess is not correct?

If Robin were to walk into your office tomorrow,
                                               what would you do differently?
Why didn’t that happen at the time?

In practice, most of the cues will produce no result and expect that the witness may think
you have lost the plot: don’t worry, because some additional detail will emerge, often in areas
neither you nor the witness expected.
