Rather than maintaining and enhancing sustainability, the proposed developments would
destroy the village for present and future generations. They represent the polar opposite of
sustainability.
The potential developments are obscured by rumour and incomplete information, making it
difficult to separate fact from fiction. The attached paper is a distillation of the thousands of
documents relating to the application. It is a work in progress to encourage modification of
the development plans or, in the alternative, produce an agreed Statement of Facts to
simplify the issues for review.
I hope a solution can be found and I apologise if this letter anticipates a problem that has
already been solved.
The attached paper lists my objections – based current understanding - and is unavoidably
lengthy. Detail is necessary to seek an accurate factual base, to create an audit trail of the
extrapolations derived therefrom, and to encourage developers and officials to think again
about plans that are unsustainable.
Over the coming weeks, MSDC officials will have to decide whether the current application
will be approved. I have been told that planners can only consider the application before
them and are not allowed to take a wider view; in this case it is said they must disregard the
integrated development of an estimated 120+ units. This would be unwise.
Planners and officials will not be forgiven if they approve the current application – as the thin
end of a wedge – knowing that another much larger integrated scheme is lurking in the
background.
They need to remember that time will tell. If parts of Ashurst Wood deteriorate into an
urban ghetto, as I and many others fear, there can be no excuses.
Yours sincerely,
Michael Comer
