Things that do absorb the sunlight
become very warm and radiate, or give off
some of the heat. Think about how it feels to
stand next to an over that has been turned on.
The air near the oven feels warm.
The heat from the oven radiates and
warms the air near it. Air near cities is
warmer because the buildings absorb and
radiate a lot of heat. Air over water is cooler
than air over land because water absorbs and
radiates less heat than land.
