Mouth
                Digestion of food begins in mouth:
            - Saliva: a liquid moistens and begins to
            break food.
            - Teeth: grind (crush) food.
            - Tongue: mixes food with saliva.

            A long muscular tube that carries food

Esophagus   down from throat (pharynx)to the
                           stomach.

            - A muscular organ.

            - It has acid & enzymes (digestive

            juices) that change food into soupy

                    liquid.

Stomach - Food stays few hours then stomach

            muscles move it to small intestine.

            - A long, winding tube up to 6 m long.

Small       - The food is fully digested into
               nutrients by juices of liver and
intestine pancreas.

            - The wall of small intestine absorbs
               nutrients through tiny blood vessels.

 Large      - Undigested food flows into …………
intestine   - A tube from small intestine to anus.
            - It stores the wastes & absorbs water

               from the undigested food.
            - Wastes leave the body through anus.
            - No digestion but absorption of water.
