Catalytic converter

A metallic can exists in most modern cars to
treat the emitted harmful gases from the engine.

It has ceramic cells covered + thin layer of a catalytic metal
(platinum / palladium / iridium)

Ceramic cells are similar to bee cells that increase the surface area of
the exposed catalytic substance to the emitted gases.

This economizes the use of expensive metal
(catalyst increases the rate of the reaction)
