Officer Lopez of the 76th precinct charged the two with grand larceny-auto, criminal possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of an automobile. Both boys%u2019 names are being witheld.ONLY A PLASTIC TOY: Three male youths were arrested July 20 after allegedly telling a woman %u201cWe%u2019re going to blow your brains out%u201d as they held an imitation pistol to her head. Responding to a radio call, Officer Favor of the 76th Precinct arrested the three suspects, Preston Lawrence of 754 Henry St., Tahren Lester, 443 Columbia St., and William Wright, 797 Hicks St. and held them for menacing.ARRESTED FOR SEX ABUSE:A Bushwick man was arrested on July 20 at 9:30 p.m. on charges of burglary and sex abuse after allegedly breaking into a Cobble Hill home and abusing a 23 year-old female occupant. The police were notified after neighbors heard a commotion, and Officer Wernicke of the 76th Precinct arrested Orlando Nieves, 103 Stockholm St.SHIP MODELS STOLEN: St.Paul%u2019s Church, Clinton and Carroll Streets, was robbed the night of July 24 of two antique ship models. The models, more than 75 years old, hung from the ceiling of the church as votive offerings in thanksgiving for deliverance from shipwreck by former parishioners. They are made of wood, 2 'A to 3 feet in length, and are fully rigged. A reward of $100 has been offered to anyone supplying information lending to the recovery of the ships by the Robin Hood Conservative Club, of .191 Sacket Street. The case is in the hands of Detective Keenan of the 76th Precinct; his number is 834-3211. The church number is 625-4126.TRIED TO USE THE AUTO:Police concluded a brief car chase in Boerum Hill on July 25 with an arrest for attempted murder of a patrolman with an automobile. At 5:10 p.m. a youth pointed out a nearby car and driver to police, claiming the man nearly ran him over. When Officer Brian Waterbury approached the car, the driver allegedly cursed him and sped from the spot. Waterbury and Officer Anthony Squittery apprehended the two men inside the speeding car after a brief chase, charging the driver, 21 year-old Gary Gerard of 211 Dean St., with attempted murder. Also arrested was Thomas Roman, 32, of 200 Dean St., who was charged with hindering prosecution for allegedly interfering with police attempts to subdue Gerard. Both men were also charged with reckless endangerment and resisting arrest, as well as possession of a controlled substance for drugs reportedly found inside the car.WOVE HIS WAY: The screaming brakes of a truck screeching to a halt at Hoyt St. and Dean allerted Officer Cumberbatch of the Neighborhood Stabilization Unit to the suspicious behavior of a blue auto reportedly weaving down the street near the intersection. He pursued and questioned the driver, Paul Venuto of 1121 73rd St., Brooklyn, before arresting him for drunk driving at 2 p.m. at the corner of Hoyt St. and Wykoff.HE GOT THE BETS: The O.T.B. office at 180 Montague Street was robbed of $13,000 on July 31 by an unidentified man armed with a gun. At 7:30 p.m., as the betting parlor was closing, the man pulled a gun, ordering employees to the back and forcing them to open the safe for him. He then fled. The gunman is described as being black, in his twenties, about 5%u20198%u201d tall and 150 pounds.year-oio Leslie Hawkins ot lu/7 Lenox Rd. was arrested at 9:15 a.m. on July 19 after allegedly attempting to rob the Chase Manhattan Bank at 352 Flatbush Ave. Police claim that the accused gave a note to a teller demanding money and saying he had a gun. When the teller refused, Hawkins fled on foot, was apprehended by Officer Hayes of the 78th Precinct and was charged with attempted robbery. He was unarmed.POCKET PICKERS CAUGHT:Plainsclothesman Robert Taylor of the 78th Precinct%u2019s anticrime unit arrested two youth 12 and 15, after they allegedly robbed a 71 year-old woman of her pocketbook at the corner of Prospect Park West and Garfield PL at 1:59 p.m. on July 20.BROKE UP FIGHT: Police arrested two people after an altercation in front of 162 Prospect PL on July 22 at 2:30 p.m. Both Sophia Edler, 56, 162 Prospect PI. and Melvin Davis, 27, 305 Hackensack St., Woodbridge, New Jersey were held for assault after Edler allegedly threw turpentine into the eyes of Davis and his wife, and Davis reportedly hit Edler, causing cuts in the cheek and nose. The arrest was made by Officer Bagley of the 78th Precinct.IT DIDN%u2019T WASH: A burglary of a laundromat at 630 Vanderbilt Ave. was thwarted July 24 at 4:30 a.m. Paul Wise, 20, of 162 Albany Ave. was captured after he and another man, who escaped, allegedly broke into the laundromat with a 4-foot crow bar and began to open the machines, at which point police arrived. Wise was charged with burglary and possession of burglar%u2019s tools.CAPTURED FOR STABBING: At12:10 p.m. on July 24, Juan Romero, 25, of 704 DeGraw St., was arrested by Officer Simon of the 78th Precinct and charged with attempted murder, assault, and possession of a deadly weapon. On June 29 at 11:30 p.m. Romero allegedly stabbed Louis Bega of 367 Bergen St., causing serious injury. Three minutes later, he allegedly held Femanfto Nievas of377 Bergen St. while an uncaptured accomplice stabbed Nievas. Both victims were hospitalized for more than two weeks.SUBWAY GANG: On July 28 at 1:30 p.m., police apprehended a gang of youths believed to have terrorized 200 F-train passengers at knife-point after allegedly robbing a jewlery peddler at the corner of Flatbush Avenue and Fulton Street. Officers Peter Rail and Paul Sagnelli, who apprehended eight of the reported 11 youths involved in the jewelry theft, suspected that the group had also been involved in the York Street station subway hold-up. Six of the eight were positively identified as being involved in the York Street incident. Those arrested were: Robert Hodges, James Mack and Michael Washington, all 19, and five minors%u2014two 16 year-olds, two 15, and a 13 year-old.KNIFE BRANDISHING: On July 28 at 2 a.m., Jose Moran, 43, of 203 Park Place was arrested for attempted burglary, possession of burglar%u2019s tools, menacing and possession of a knife. The arrest was made by Officer Joseph Rogers of the 72nd Precinct after receiving a call that a man had broken into 419 5th Street and when alarmed by the occupant, threatened her with a knife, afterwards fleeing on foot. Moran was found in the area of the crime and arrested on the basis of his description.STOLE AND GRABBED: July 28 at 8:50 a.m. a 15 year-old youth was arrested and charged with grand larceny-purse snatching after alledgedly stealing a woman%u2019s brown leather bag and grabbing her buttocks in the Prospect Avenue station on the RR line. In the meantime other programs, like the federal government%u2019s non-profit CETA program and Community Development funds are usurping the Corporation%u2019s role while serious urban blight remains in areas like South Brooklyn and Fort Greene. New organizations joining the anti-poverty fray are managing what amounts to an end run around the traditional corporation structure.In recognition of this situation, the Fifth Avenue Committee, made up of local merchants and residents, was able to secure a CETA contract from the federal government earlier this year to fight commercial and residential housing decline in its area. A plan to seal up area buildings in South Brooklyn from Red Hook to Park Slope, to be funded by the city and federal governments, was originated this past spring by the South Brooklyn Corporation, but was promptly taken out of the Corporation%u2019s hands by Community Planning Board 6. The Corporation was placed on the committee to hire the youths who will eventually do the sealing up%u2014left, ultimately, in a restricted advisory role.Continued incursions on their own turf%u2014whether it is Fort Greene not dealing with Fulton Street while %u201coutsiders%u201d come in to negotiate for jobs or South Brooklyn upstaged with the emergence of the Fifth Avenue Committee and a mere participant role in the upcoming seal-up program%u2014show that the Corporations no longer have a monopoly on community action, andUncontestedMatrimonials$ 2 0 0plus court feesOther legal services and evening appointmentsDavid E.
