Writing for small group ensembles which include voice and instruments, she became the cowinner this year of the coveted Queens College Alter Machlis Memorial Prize.Michener, 16-year Hill resident renovation pioneer and community activist, will be featured soloist. Proclaiming art as the %u201c source of real exaltation, our word and deed,%u201d Gabo with Pevsner and Wassily Kandinsky was purged from his native land when his views became antagonistic to the later aims of Soviet revolutionaries. After moves from Berlin to Paris to London, Gabo finally settled inNew York, during this timekor%u00bb#\\mir%u00bbrT n n o n f fh p m aifM Tvoices of the modern abstract and non objective art movement.Dr. Luis Quiroga, Vicar of Christ Church, a scholar of e x is te n tia lis t th o u g h t, welcomes the incorporation of the expression of that philosophy in the anthem text.Receiving his Ph.D. in %u201cThe Existential Philosophical Works of Soren Kierkegaard.\the theme of Dr. Quiroga s dissertation at the University de Antioquia at Medellin, Columbia, S.A., was %u201cIn God we move and have our existence.%u201dBefore the prayer for the whole body of Christ Church, Dr. Quiroga will say a special prayer for the growth of the arts and for the welfare of Brooklyn artists.Nikolais Sets New WorkA new work, %u201cGrotto,%u201d by Alwin Nikolais will be premiered during the forthcoming two-week season at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Feb. 15-25, by the Nikolais Dance Theatre, appearing on the same programs with the Murray Louis Dance Company.The Brooklyn event will be part of a tour by both companies under the supervision of Murray Louis, as Alwin Nikolais fulfills a personal commitment to stage %u201can electronic spectacle%u201d at the Hamburg State Opera House in Germany.The emphasis in %u201cGrotto%u201d will be primarily on dance rather than on the theatrical aspects of Nikolais%u2019 work which have made his namesynonymous with stage magic.Set to the choreographer%u2019s own sound score, %u201cGrotto%u201d will be staged in three different and simultaneous dimensions.
