And he will beimpeached, I have good reason tobelieve, by early May. Then thequestion is can we restorerepresentative democracy? Canwe re-establish ethical standards,government by law for people, andjustice?%u201cThis is an historic opportunity,an important time for ordinarypeople to stand up and speak out.This is no time for apathy. It wasordinary people who wrote theConstitution. And it is up to usordinary people to take on the fullresponsibilities of citizens in ademocracy,%u201d she said.%u201cA Congressional election is anational election and a localelection at the same time. We havea unique chance, you and I, to dosomething to bring federal fundsinto Brooklyn to help revitalize andpreserve our neighborhoods. Wealso have a unique chance to fightfor representative government, tovote out the men who failed us andto vote in ordinary people who careabout what happens to other ordinary people,%u201d she said.%u201cBanks owe the neighborhoodsfrom which they draw their moneythe mortgages and cash needed topreserve those neighborhoods, andit is irresponsible for Brooklynbanks to continue to bypassBrooklyn with their investments.What happens to one neighborhood, happens to the next onetoo, and to the next one to that,until all are affected. If it%u2019s badhousing, they all go down. If it%u2019spreservation, they are all improved,%u201d she said.%u201cWhere are the 15,000 jobspromised to us from an industrialpark on the site of the old BrooklynNavy Yard? Where is the industrial park a private corporationwas to develop when it receivedthousands of public dollars for thatpurpose %u2014 8 years ago? Wherehave our representatives been?Why aren%u2019t they representing us?Do they take our apathy forgranted? Perhaps they assume weare too stupid to notice they don%u2019tgive a damn%u201d, she added.%u201cIf you would fight the tyrannyof special interests andlawlessness, join with me.Together we will find others to joinwith us in common cause, thecommon cause of decency, the ruleof law, justice, and the restorationof government %u2018of the people, bythe people, and for the people,%u201d%u2019Ms. Rassin concluded.Priscilla J. Rassin grew up inNew York and moved to Brooklynfour years ago when she startedworking for a law firm on WallStreet. She earned her B. A. atHunter College and her law degreeat the University of Virginia. She is27 years old.Ms. Rassin is a member of theBoard of Governors of theBrooklyn Heights Association, theExecutive Committee of theBrooklyn Heights NeighborhoodAssembly, the Executive Board ofBrooklyn Heights SANE, the Boardof Directors of IndependenceCommunity Center in Williamsburg, and the Junior Committeeof Colony-South Brooklyn Neighborhood Houses. She is an activemember of the Brooklyn Coordinating Committee of WomenJoellen Bard, a new member ofThe Heights Hill ArtistsCooperative will exhibit her recentpaintings at Gallery 91, March 16-28. The gallery will be open everyday from 12-5. A public openingwill be on Saturday, March 16 from8-11 p.m.This show will feature her recent%u201cAbalone Series%u201d in acrylic. Thesecolor explorations are inspired bythe amorphous shapes and theiridescent quality of abalone shell.She has derived a personal stylethat lies somewhere between therealms of Lyrical Abstraction andColor Field.Ms. Bard studied at SyracuseUniversity, Pratt Institute,Strike for Peace, the Fund for NewPriorities in America, theBrooklyn Women%u2019s PoliticalCaucus, and the NationalEmergency Civil LibertiesCommittee.Brooklyn College and TheBrooklyn Museum Art School. Shereceived a BFA Degree from PrattInstitute in 1964 and a MA Degreefrom Brooklyn College in 1967.She has studied with a widevariety of artists%u2014among themRobert Goodenough, Vander Sluis.Charles Cajori, Gabriel Laderman,Dore Ashton, Mercedes Matter,Carl Holty, Jimmy Ernst, PhilipPearlstein and Reuben Tam.She also has taught art in NewYork City High School for fiveyears.
