Entering his fath e r%u2019s business after World War II, Charlie has seen many trends in carpeting styles and many changes in cleaning technology. He witnessed the transition from the vogue of the room size rug to wall-to-wall carpeting and back again to today%u2019s popularity of room size rugs that enhance the handsome wood floors that characterize so many local residences. In Abadarian's location at 13 Bergen Street off Court, all phases of the carpet business are represented. Every rug serviced by Abadarian is treated by a specially trained staff who use handoperated equipment. Charlie has resisted the temptation to fully automate the process because the hand-worked process permits spot cleaning and special attention to high traffic areas. After treatment with the best cleaning agents, rugs are run through a giant wringer and then transfered to drying rooms.Abadarian%u2019s service includes pick up and delivery, although a 20 percent discount is offered to clients able to bring in and call for their carpets. The cleaning process usually takes about 1 week; clients may also arrange for de-static treatm ent, soil residtant processing and fire retardant treatment. The keynote is professionalism andCharlie Ajami, along with two of his sons. George and Chuck, personally supervise the entire operation.%u201c Carpet cleaning is important not only to the attractiveness of a carpet, but also to its wearability.
