As thoughts turn to gardens, terraces and window boxes, Willoughby House Junior Board seems to be first right behind the Easter bunny with its Annual Plant Sale, Saturday, April 20, to benefit the Willoughby House Settlement.Founded in 1901, the Settlement has been operating for many years to bring essential services into the Fort Greene community. These include a Child Care Center, School Age Center, Senior Citizens Center, two generalized community centers, and a recently opened Day Care Center. The various programs benefit and enhance the lives of approximately 3,500 families in the area. The Junior Board is group of young women from the Brooklyn Heights/Cobble Hill area who support the Settlement%u2019s programs through fund-raising efforts. An annual spring plant sale is part of this effort. In the past the sale has been conducted completely by advance mail orders. However, since half the fun of purchasing plants and flowers is in selecting them, it was decided to have a street sale this year. Despiie this change, the philosophy of providing quality plants at a reasonable and competitive price to benefit a worthy community cause remains. In addition to an extensiveselection of geraniums and an assortment of hanging baskets, there will be flats of impatiens and petunias, begonia and ivy plants available in the First PresbyterianChurch courtyard, 124 Henry, near Clark St., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, April 20. In case of rain, the sale will be on April 21 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.Botanic Garden New HoursSpring hours for the gardens at Brooklyn Botanic Garden become effective as of April 13.
