Page 22, PHOENIX, May 16, 1974 78th Citing'Supercops'At the April meeting of the 78th Precinct Community Council, newly re-elected president Stan Mongin announced a new Supercop Citation Program now in effect at the Park Slope - Prospect Heights Precinct.Under the program, names of police officer candidates from the Precinct area will be submitted to Captain Vincent Brogan, who will review the nominations before referring them for review to a selection committee composed of elected officers of the Precinct Council. The selection committee will meet the first week of every month, and announcements of their choices will be made at monthly Precinct Council meetings held every last Tuesday at 8 p.m. The next meeting will be held on May 28 at Grace Church, 7th Avenue at St. Johns Place.Nominations should be submitted in writing to Captain Vincent Brogan, 78th Precinct Commanding Officer, at 485 Bergen St., Brooklyn 11217.78th Precinct Community Relations Officer Skip Crehan had only one arrest to report this week, but it%u2019s a beaut:On May 10 at 10:45 p.m., several police cars responded to a silent burglar alarm set off in the M anufacturers Hanover Trust Bank at 127 Seventh Avenue, Park Slope.Precinct Commander Captain Vincent Brogan was among police officers who responded. When he peered through the windows of the bank, he saw Carol Miller, 27, of 187 Garfield Place, running around inside.Ms. Miller, who had broken into the bank, was arrested on a burglary charge by Officer John Caramico.72nd FoilsHijackerIn the early-morning hours of May 10, a truck carrying $31,000 worth of meat was hijacked outside 129 Fort Greene Place (the Fort Greene meat market) and driven to Sunset Park, where police Officers Ralph Annunziato and Jam es Slavin of the 72nd Precinct station spotted it.When Officer Annunziato stopped the driver and questioned him, he pushed the door open, knocked Annunziato down, and ran away. Officer Slavin fired two shots, but missed. The hickjacker got away. The truck belongs to the Parnett Packing Company of Utica, N.Y.Cops in 76thNab ThievesOFFICER Tim Cole submitted the following report for arrests made in the 76th Precinct the past week: On May 7 at 10:30 p.m., Officer Devitt arrested a man found in possession of burglar tools on Carroll Street between Columbia and Hicks Streets. On May 9 at 3:05 p.m.. Officer Theodore Jurek of the 76th Investigation Unit arrested a man for possession of a gun on Smith Street at 9th St. On May 11 at 5:11 p.m., a man was arrested for burglary in the Van Brunt St.-Hamilton Avenue area. Officer Wright Hockaday of the 76th Anti-Crime Unit made the arrest. And on May 11 at 7:40 p.m., Officer Michael Fasano made one arrest for grand larceny (auto theft) on Dean Street between Hoyt and Bond Streets.Bargain inBuildingsCONTINUED FROM 1%u2019AGI .1 Downtown Brooklyn Development (ODBD), the City%u2019s Board of Ethics has cleared the two of conflict-ofinterest charges.Another sore point is that Foss and Zunino (with the other Zutalors partner, Richard S. Berry) own #1-3-5 Fulton Street under the name Underbridge Restoration Company, and have done nothing to improve it.A fact sheet prepared by the Office of Downtown Brooklyn Development computes the City%u2019s writedown (loss) at a total of $85,825.00; but it outlines the following benefits: 32 units ofsubsidized housing for 10 years; recapture of the writedown within eight years through increased real estate taxes; stimulating development; and a demonstration of the value of a Special Atlantic Avenue District, on which ODBD has been working with local merchants and the Boerum Hill community. In order to take advantage of that favorable IRS depreciation rate, work must begin in June and be substantially complete by the end of December. Says Project Director Goldberg, %u201c I really hope we can get this thing through the Board of Estimate. The Board met inexecutive session on May 8 but| tabled it until May 23. The public hearing is tentatively scheduled for June 7.%u201dTom Butson of Boerum Hilll intends to be present at that] hearing. Like some others who I were interested in the Atlantic] Avenue properties, he wonders] why HDA couldn%u2019t write down the | buildings for him.Slope HasSociologyCollege students who live in the Park Slope Community will be offered a unique educational opportunity this summer.
