The SRO audience was mostly adults, and they loved every minute of it. They laughed, cheered, guffawed, applauded, and mostly didn%u2019t want to leave when it was over. The consensus of opinion was that Nehemiah is great adult fare, as well as a great kids%u2019 show. Two Park Slope residents wrote this original musical. Barry Solowey, w'ho plays at the Iron Horse on Saturdays, did the original music, each piece of which is a travesty of a different genre. Burt Schuman did the book and lyrics %u2014 all of which are high camp and very funny. The finishing touch on this jewel of a performance is the right, witty choreography by Martha Cataldo. What kind of children%u2019s show could keep adults so enthralled? In six scenes of song and dance, the play tells of the plight of an erratic son of a poor fish-net-maker whose dream in life is to populate a farm with the strangest animals in theis ready to run off to the \frozen tundra\While all of the 17 cast members bring a rare enthusiasm to their kaleidoscopic range of roles, special mention must be made of Mary Ruth Goodley who appears as a launderette, a raisin, and a \er.The show is scheduled for this weekend, Friday June 7 at 7:30 and Saturday, June 8at 2 and 4 p.m. All pe%u2019formances are at the Old First Reformed Church on Carroll St. neac Seventh Avenue. For ticket information call 788-6362. If audience response is any measure, the play could be held over for months. SHEILA DEANSchool Board M em ber Diesworld. Happily, Brooklyn can lay claim to a group that%u2019s well on its way to such mastery. Mt. Airy took their audience at the Village's Bitter End on a delightful tour of musical moods. The five musicians, all but one of whom hail from Brooklyn, play for what seems to be the sheer joy of their creations: from soft laments, to Carribean reggac.ro good old rock and roll.Bob Hinkle demonstrated great competency on a number of instruments, and along w-ith Rich Look on keyboards, made up the musical center of the group. Hinkle's ability on guitar, trumpet, percussion, and other various gadgets gave the group a feeling of being larger than it really was. and, to my mind, there%u2019s nothing to make a group sound beter than a well-played piano, as Look demonstrated particularly well. Augmented by Ralph D'Onofrio don drums, Steve Chapin on bass, and Tom Chapin on guitar and banjo, the music, in all forms, was complete. Two numbers: that best demonstrated the group's abilities were \Square.\and control of tempo and time changes, and the excellent dynamics were set off perfectly by the group's vocalizing. In \Square\your eyes you%u2019d find yourself at 42nd St. amid the shouts and clatter of the subway underground, and soon be pushed and shoved, musically, to the streets above where the world rushes on, in leaps and bounds, with you, around you, or right over you, as the voices of theNorma%u2019s%u25a0Uniforms A SportswearSpecial attention to group orders126 Court Street ( near Atlantic)r respect Park SouthTour SetI m j n t t j n%u25a0 %u25a0%u25a0vi c u r u i c .Great coffee in your office for only pennies a cup.7 0 4 O A O A 0 w - r - y w w wOur Off ice Coffee Service supplies an incredibly good cupare kits including coffee, filters, sugar and creamer. This number is a real musical-vocal journey.\circus where you can almost feel the sawdust under your feet, and hear the caliopie, as the group%u2019s excellent instrumentation, with Bob Hinkle on glockenspiel, brings you right to the big top. It's an absolute carnival seduction, and the instrumental break in this number is especially good, and is held together by the strong bass work of Steve Chapin and the drumming of D'Onofrio. At the other end of the scale Mt. Airy proved they can also handle the less theatrical, more mellow pieces just as well. In Hinkle's %u201cThere is a child whose eyes 1 am ,%u201d the four part harmonies, slightly reminiscent of Peter, Paul, and Mary, are no less than enchanting, and w hat%u2019s more, the lyrics have a meaning and a feeling that makes it all sound so right and true to the ear.The latest musical craze to hit this country is the Reggae sound of the West Indies, made popular by Jimmy Cliff and Johnny Nash, and Mt. Airy demonstrated a mastery of this form too. In Ralph's \Boogie,\reggae sound, adds a little more thump, and in their own way get the music to work for them b v accenting their strong points, specifically Rich Look's piano work, and the smooth vocalizing of Tom Chapin. The overall impression was excellent, and the crowd seemed to agree. The group was called back for two, or was it three encores, and demonstrating their growing ability to handle an audience, went through old favorites. including the Temptation's big hit of the sixties \some simple rock and roll that allowed the fans to stomp, clap, and sing right along until the house lights came up and they had to throw us all out so the second shew could begin. One of Brooklyn's most exclusive residential neighborhoods, Prospect Park South will be visited bv participants in the Long Island Historical Society%u2019s walking tour scheduled for June 16. A section characterized at the time of its initial development as \Urbe\with a series of lavish, turn-of-thecentury. single family residences in a countrified setting that has withstood many of the pressures of change. The area was developed in 1900 by the Rochester, New York land speculator. Dean Alvord, who abandoned the row house concept of residential building in the city and envisioned instead an \ally perfect residential park.\Within the confines of the grid street layout, Alvord and his architect, John Petit, built a wide variety of mansions based on a similar floorplan including the exotic \bellum style Greek Revival houses, and robustly turreted and gabled houses reminiscent of the Dutch Colonial style. The tour of this unique neighborhood is set for 2 P.M. beginning outside the Beverly Road Station on the BMT Brighton line, with a ram date scheduled for June 23. Tour guides will be local history author Robert T. Murphy and Prospect Park Curator. Donald Simon. The tour is open to the public and a SI donation will be gratefully accepted.Children Get Early Start At BerkeleyKindergartners at The Berkeley Institute, 181 Lincoln Place, have been \munity helpers and occupations, announced Mrs. Joyce Dupee and Miss Joyce Lewis, teachers of the group. %u201cToo often,%u201d they stated \the scenes' factors that provide them with food, clothing, and services of various kinds.
