                                    February 7,1974 PHOENIX Page 7Rosten, Jackson toRead at Poet SeriesNorman Rosten, novelist and poet and Heights resident, and Mae Jackson, of Clinton Hill, who has read her poems several times on Channel 13, will be the featured readers Feb. 10 in the next event of The Walt Whitman-Hart Crane Memorial Poetry Series at The Long Island Historical Society, 128 Pierrepont St., the free event begins at 3 p.m.The Whitman-Crane Series, which features Brooklyn%u2019s and Long Island%u2019s finest contemporary poets, is named for the two internationally known writers whoonce lived and worked in the Heights, and is founded and administrated by poet and multimedia artist Daniela Gioseffi. Ms. Gioseffi sponsors the series with grants from POETS and Writers of the New York State Council on the Arts and the City%u2019s Cultural Affairs Dept.Mae Jackson, featured reader, has published a book of poetry titled, %u201cCan I Poet with You%u201d from Black Dialogue Press. She will soon appear on a recording, %u201cTo Be a Woman%u201d from Black Forum label. She is the winner of Black World%u2019s %u201c Third Conrade KentMemorial Award.%u201dNorman Rosten%u2019s novels include %u201cUnder the Boardwalk%u201d and the more recent %u201cOver and Out.%u201d Rosten has written plays that have been produced both on and off Broadway and completed a libretto for an opera under a Ford Foundation Grant as well. He is a former Guggenheim Fellow and a recipient of an award from the Academy of Arts and Letters. His latest work is the newly published %u201cMarilyn: An Untold Story\Signet. Registration will continue through Fri., Feb. 15. Entry forms will be available in the Gourmet Kitchen.There will be two categories for the contest: 1. Best Pie Crust (any type permitted); and 2. Best Cherry Pie Filling (fillings may vary widely in texture and ingredients as long as the primary flavor is cherry).
