The elevated was eventually replaced by an underground line.While the new subway was being built, Fulton Street was chaos, with theelevated running overhead, a trolley line down the middle of the street, andpedestrians skirting huge excavations. NOw, as the subway tunnels arereceiving repair and the Fulton Mall is being constructed, pedestrians areskirting excavations on Fulton again to get to the A & S store.
