There will be cherubs singing in branches of various banks, youngsters busily making ornaments, students performing in Christmas pageants and musical presentations, and others performing in concerts at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.Bah-Humbug notwithstanding, students from public, independent and parochial schools are no Scrooges. They%u2019ll be visiting hospitals, caroling for senior citizens or delivering food to the needy. Others will be lighting candles in hope for world peace.SANTA CLAUS VISITSSanta Claus is making a few selective visits too, but not everyone will be able to match what will happen to the handicapped children of P.S. 11 in Clinton Hill. They are going to be guests at a party given at JFK Airport by the Community Mayors organization Dec. 13. They%u2019ll spend the whole day at the airport, and Santa will arrive there by helicopter.At P.S. 10, 511 7th Ave. in Park Slope, Santa will visit Dec. 18%u2014courtesy of the PTA%u2014and he%u2019ll have a movie to show. At P.S. 39 at 6th Ave. and 8th St., Santa visits yearly and gives out candy canes, timing his arrival to meet his counter-part, a kindergarten child who plays Santa in the school%u2019s annual kindergarten Christmas Play.On Dec. 19 the PTA of P.S. 124 at 515 4th Ave. sponsors a visit from Santa at that school, while at P.S. 133 at Butler and 4th Ave., also thanks to the PTA, he has a gift for everyone. The children at P.S. 67 on St. Edwards St. in Fort Greene delight in playing Santa Claus themselves. The paraprofessionals at the school collect toys from all the little Santas and then one of the %u201c paras%u201d dressed as Santa visits Cumberland Hospital and distributes the toys to the children.BANK ON CAROLINGCherubs singing carols in the various banks are brought to you courtesy of the schools they represent and they%u2019ll be singing in local branches of the Greater New York Savings Bank and the Independence Savings Bank. And at one bank, the Independence, the band from I.S. 293 of Cobble Hill will perform Dec. 17 at 10 am. Packer Collegiate Institute on Joralemon St. will hold its traditional (70 plus years old) annual Christmas pageant at 9:30 and 11 am on Dec. 21.To round off the International Year of the Child, students from four schools will be singing in concert at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, 1000 Washington Ave. On Dec. 16th at 2:30 pm Packer%u2019s Chorus will join the chorus and orchestra of the Brooklyn Friends School of Pearl St. to present the %u2018%u2018Bach Family.%u201d Professor Peter Schickele, who discovered the long-lost Bach relative P.D.Q. Bach will be a special guest. The concert will be first performed Dec. 13 at Packer%u2019s Old St. Ann%u2019s Church at Clinton and Livingston, 8 pm. Both concerts are free.Four Choral Groups of the Berkeley Institute under the direction of Ethel Orpen will sing carols from around the world Dec. 19 at 2:30 pm at the Gardens. Some will be in the original languages of Spanish, German, French and Italian. St. Ann%u2019s Middle School Singers, directed by Ron Banyay offers traditional and contemporary Christmas songs and carols Dec. 20 at 2:30 pm all at the Botanic Garden.St. Ann%u2019s Episcopal School will also present a Festival of Lessons and Carols Dec. 16th at 4 pm at the Church of St. Ann and the Holy Trinity on Montague and Clinton Sts. Ron Banyay will direct and Erika Nickrenz will be the accompanist.Berkeley Institute plans to entertain members of the Montauk Club on 8th Ave. & Lincoln PI. Dec. 13 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm with a Christmas Carol Concert.PEACE ON EARTHThe Carroll Street School, formerly the Montessori School in Park Slope, plans a candlelight ceremony Dec. 18 at 9:30 am with a child from each of 13 classes lighting a candle in hope for world peace while the Chorus Club directed by Jim Wingate sings.SCHOOLS OF CELEBRATIONSThe holiday spirit in the public schools reflects the diversity of its population%u2014 there are international dinners, African American Kwanza celebrations and preparations for Three Kings Day held in Spanish and English.P.S. 321 in Park Slope hosted an international dinner on Dec. 7th, a PTA project, that involved the whole school in a dinner to which each participating family contributed a dish. Red Hook%u2019s P.S. 27 plans a Kwanza the week of Dec. 10 with drums, dancing, singing and a candle ceremony. The Christmas pageants at 4th Ave.%u2019s P.S. 133 are bilingual and the school is also planning for a Three Kings Day celebration on Jan. 6.Satellite West in Fort Greene is presenting a Night of the Arts with singing, dancing, mime, solo instruments and voice, dramatic skits and orchestra as well as an art exhibit Dec. 17 at 7 pm in the P.S. 307 auditorium at 209 York St. On Dec. 18 there will be a short violin presentation at P.S. 261 in Boerum Hill with sludents taught by the Roosa School on Willow Place.At P.S. 10 in Park Slope the PTA has set up Santa%u2019s Secret Shop, where students can go to purchase presents on their own. Some of the shoppers will repay this kind thought, as the Glee Club sings for Community School Board 15%u2019s open meeting Dec. 19 at 8 pm at 360 Smith St.A HOLIDAY SPIRITCobble Hill%u2019s P.S. 29 will carol the Cobble Hill Nursing Home and P.S. 321 will carol the Madonna Residence in Park Slope. The Carroll Sireet School will sing for the Senior Citizens at All Saints Church and Grace Methodist Church in Park Slope.P.S. 39 has decided to adopt a child and support him or her through one of the relief programs. I.S. 293 students are baking for the Long Island College Hospital in Cobble Hill and P.S. 287 is stuffing animals for neighboring hospital children%u2019s wards. The children of P.S. 46 of 100 Clermont Ave. are making Christmas food baskets for needy senior citizens in their community in this, the 20th year they%u2019ve done so.Woodward Park on Prospect Park West is collecting food and clothing for Southeast Asia refugees, and P.S. 321 is sending friendship packages to children in Cambodia via the Red Cross.Helping people can sometimes be necessary right in your own school. A fire in the neighborhood burned the homes of three students at P.S. 9 in Prospect Heights and students are collecting funds and food for the victims, and so the holiday spirit will last a lot longer than these few weeks.Tues., December 18I.S. 293 Christmas Concert, with band, chorus, and dance groups.
