It is the first solo New York exhibition by this California artist who recently moved to Brooklyn. %u201cBalerethon%u201d maintains the carefully structured formal distance of a detective novel, insinuating alternating layers of reality through a sequencing of circumstantial %u2018evidence.%u2019 Stanton uses shadings of light, sound, and texture to encourage viewers to what he calls %u201ctrespass the conventions of time,%u201d allowing th a n to invent their own narrative while consenting to %u201cthe manifestation of a hallucination which is in agreement with science and the law, which looks like proof, but which is in fact a lie,%u201d he says.
