Kindness
Last week, our College celebrated World Kindness Day with a variety
of thoughtful activities. This event is a reminder of the profound
impact kindness can have - not only on those around us, but also
on ourselves and the world. As Christians, we know that kindness is
more than just a good deed; it’s a reflection of Christ’s love working
through us.
The purpose of World Kindness Day aligns beautifully with our calling
as followers of Jesus. We are not only encouraged to act kindly, but
to make kindness a part of who we are - in our thoughts, words, and
deeds. Christ Himself provides the ultimate example of how to live
this out.
Throughout the Gospel, Jesus shows us what true kindness looks like. Whether healing the
sick, feeding the hungry, or welcoming outcasts, His actions were rooted in unwavering
love and compassion. Even in His darkest moments, hanging on the cross, Jesus embodied
kindness. In Luke 23:34, He prayed for His executioners, saying, “Father, forgive them, for
they know not what they do.” This extraordinary act of grace reminds us that kindness flows
from a heart aligned with God’s will.
Ephesians 4:32 urges us to “be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as
God in Christ forgave you.” But what does that look like in our daily lives? Kindness does
not always require grand gestures. Sometimes it is as simple as offering a smile, speaking
words of encouragement, or showing patience in a frustrating situation. Small acts of
kindness can carry great weight, reminding others and ourselves that love and compassion
still triumph.
Kindness also has a remarkable ripple effect, like a single rock dropped into the ocean.
When we experience kindness, it inspires us to pass it on, creating waves that reach
far beyond what we can see. Imagine how our homes, schools, and communities could
transform if each of us committed to even one act of kindness each day.
Matthew 5:16 reminds us of this responsibility: “Let your light shine before others, so that
they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Our acts of
kindness are not just about being good people; they are opportunities to reflect God’s light
and point others toward Him.
As we move forward, let us carry the spirit of World Kindness Day into every day. May we
find joy in both giving and receiving kindness, and may we encourage one another to let
Christ’s love shine through our actions.
So, let this be your inspiration to provoke random acts of kindness today, and every day.
Together, let us create ripples of love, compassion, and grace that honour our Saviour and
touch the lives of those around us.
