ProvidingNewsandViewsformorethan30yearsFoxPharmacy,HGHair&Page31theRennieGrovePeaceCharityShop.HOLMERGREENGARDENINGASSOCIATIONANNUALSHOWThe Village Gardening Association%u2019s Annual Show took place on 7th September, and horticultural entries were always going to be challenging. given the extreme weather conditions of the summer months.In the event we had a reasonable number of exhibits which made for good viewing, given that some of our big exhibitors were absent or reducing their entries and that other local organisations had their shows on the same day.Our overall entries were up on a year ago thanks to increases in entries in the photographic and junior sections.We also used the opportunitytoselltherecentlyprinted2025VillageSociety Calendar, which attracted good interest at the Show.The judges were all as diligent as usual and TonyandJaniceHarperkindlyworkedhardonce again, providing refreshments for the many attendees.As ever I was grateful for the support of all those who helped with judging, stewarding,catering,certificatewriting,setting up and clearing up.Without all their efforts we wouldnothaveashowandIgivemyhugethanks to them all.PeterWilliamsistobecongratulatedonhis many wonderful horticultural successes.The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Medal went however, to Linda Meatyard as RHS rules prevent Peter from winning 2 years in a row.BrianFisher,ourresidenthorticulturist,wasthewinner of The Best pot plant for one of his superb succulents.Other winners in the floral and vegetable classes included Tony Harper and JoWeber(whowonthe%u2018much-desired%u2019pumpkintrophy!).The battle of the giant marrows and pumpkins was a highlight.andwehad to source new scales to carry out the weigh-ins!The Domestic Challenge Trophy (for most pointsinthedomesticclasses)wasawardedto Linda Meatyard and Sue Edmunds won awards for her exhibits in the jam classes.DaveMcMillan won the award for most points intheDomesticclasses across the two 2024 shows and the best domestic exhibit.Annie Greatorex providedthebest Apple Tart.Iwaspleasedtosee successes for Rob Shed with two Photography Awards (AnnualShowand2024 overall) and Margaret James won the John Streeter Memorial Trophy (for the best overall photo).Thenumberof Children%u2019s class entrants was well uponlastyearand Ethan Meatyard won the Junior Classes overall award, plus he helped theMeatyardfamilywintheRippingtonFamilyCupforoverallsuccesses.TheSpringShowisplannedfor5thApril 2024 so please put that date in your diary and pickup a show schedule from the store when availableinmid-January.Rememberentriescan be horticultural, domestic, photographic or art.MichaelKing(ShowSecretary)[There%u2019stwomoreimagesonthebackpage]VOLUNTEERSVolunteersarethelifebloodofallcharities.BrianFisher hasbeenraisingmoneythismonthbytalksandaquizgivento the V.P.A.
