                                    ProvidingNewsandViewsformorethan30yearsFoxPharmacy,HGHair&Page27theRennieGrovePeaceCharityShop.WOMEN%u2019SSECTIONROYALBRITISHLEGIONThe members of the Women%u2019s Section met in the Royal British Legion Hall for their Harvest Festival, which was held in September.This year we invited our Padre Mr Anthony Smith who kindlyacceptedour invitationtogiveashortserviceofThanksgiving,healsotoldusabouthislife as a padre and about being a paramedic.He told us about his wife, his children and about his decision to adopt two young, orphaned children from Afghanistan. This was very emotional.Afterwardsatablewithnumerousitemswerethenauctionedoff.ThanksagaintoTescoin Amersham and their employee, B.J. Taylor, who enjoys coming to join in.OctoberwasourAGMwhenmembersvotedfortheCommitteeandgavesuggestionsfornext year%u2019s programmeof events.Theprogrammewillbeavailabletomembers whenwemeetfor our Christmas lunch in December.AsweapproachChristmas,onbehalfofthe Women%u2019sSection,haveaMerryChristmasanda Happy New Year.CondolencesgotoPeterRonaldGeorgeRolt20-6-33%u201328-8-24Withapologies,thefollowingarticlewasomittedfromthelastissue:This year the Royal British Legion celebrated the 80th anniversary of D-Day.Veronica, a committeemember,andItravelledtoNormandywithCrusaderHolidaycoachinMayforaguided tour of the war graves, Normandy American cemetery memorial and the British Normandy MemorialalsothefamousPegasusBridgeandseveralotherplaces.AfteranemotionaltourofanR.A.F.officer%u2019sgrave(asergeantaged21)Ifeltitappropriatetolayapoppywreathaftersaying the Exhortation.Thefullcoachenjoyedalovelyweekendofsunshine.In June Peter Healey gave a talk, with slides, in the Village Centre depicting his father%u2019s time during the war.`This event brought back memories of the places we had visited in France.I asked the attendees if they would like to walk to the Memorial say the Exhortation and lay a wreath.We then went to the Common to see the beacon lit up.June was overcast the Women%u2019s Sectionhadtheteaparty,whichwasdonatedbythecommittee members,preparedandaniceday was enjoyed by all.July our Chelsea Pensioner was unable to visit us, but we were entertained by a Group Banjo Revivalsingingandplayinginstrumentswiththemembersjoiningin.Finishingwithawell-earned cuppa.WendyTomlinHOLMERGREENW.I.RetiredBBCjournalistBillHamiltongaveusahighlyamusing,entertainingandinterestingtalkin July.We can recommend him to other groups and hope to have him back for another talk.AugustisourWalkmeeting,whereweannuallymaintainaselectedfootpath.Someofthefitter members plus husbands took the usual footpath from Featherbed Lane through the Holmer Green woods, armed with secateurs to help clear the pathway.A few others did a shorter walk along the same route.Other members stayed behind at the Village Centre.Onthereturnofthewalkers,cupsofteaandtea-breadswereserved.September wasahugelysuccessfulmeeting.Sending outinvitestolocalWIs,wehadover fifty visitorstoattendour FashionShow.Clothes,accessoriesandatalkwereprovidedbyJackieAllen, who spoke to us about her background, including shows and shops she had run.Thefashionshowthencommenced withmembersPaulineEllis,JuliePurvis,AnneCorking,Salma Michael and Joy Moody modelling the clothes.Items were available to buy later.AfterwardsteawasservedwithVictoriaSpongecakesmadebythemembersplacedoneach table.Octoberwasasocialmeeting,withgamesofBingoandaquiz,andtheopportunitytohaveagoodchatandcatchupovertea.Detailsofourprogrammeforthecomingyearcanbeviewedonourwebsite holmergreenwi.weebly.comOurpostersarealsodisplayedeachmonthontheVillagenoticeboardbytheshops.AnnieGreatorex
