First .Annual Convention til
“Philadelphia, Pa.. Sept. 30th, 1905.
Mr. J. H. Drury. Secretary & Treasurer,
The National Supply & Machinery Dealers Ass’n.,
71 Frankfort Street. Cleveland, Ohio.
Dear Sir:—
Re-sale Price on Sandpapers.
Confirming' our pleasure of the twenty-fifth instant, we duly
received your favor of the twenty-six instant.
Our very best price to any Jobber is 65% off and our best
price to Consumers (with some fezc necessary exceptions) is
50/10/5% off and the difference we figure as 22% if the Jobber
sold direct to the Consumer, but, between these two classes there
is the ‘Dealer’ (perhaps this refers more to the Hardware Trade
than to the Supply Trade) and we have not direct the ‘Dealers’
trade, and the ‘Dealer’ buys of the ‘Jobber.’ Nine-tenths of our
business is with the Jobbers.
We would consider 60/5% off a fair price for the Jobber to
charge the ‘Dealer’ and we will agree to maintain our price to
the Consumer (with a few special exceptions) at 50/10/5% off.
Perhaps the Jobber members of your Association differ from the
Jobbers in the Hardware Trade in that your Jobbers sell to Con
sumers as well as Dealers, but, if so, this will give your Jobbers
a greater margin if our price (50/10/5%) to Consumers is
maintained. We are also willing to agree to be “out of sand
papers” to any one cutting prices to the Consumer, but we cannot
yet find a way to interfere in the price of the Jobber to the Dealer.
Yours very truly,
B aedf.r, A damson & Co.”
A M e m b e r : Have you a letter from the American Glue
Company ?
Mr. Dru ry: Yes. We had quite a run of complaint with
the Armour Sand Paper Company; they were carrying a lot of
stuff in their beef house. T believe they fixed that, Mr. Puehta,
to your satisfaction ?
Mr. P uchta : Yes.
