The Brigade by Howard Blum
The Jewish Brigade was formed in late 1944 as a unit of the British Army
made up of Jews from Mandatory Palestine, wearing a blue and white
shoulder patch featuring the Star of David. It was stationed in Italy and
fought during the last months of WWII. Afterwards, some Brigade mem-
bers hunted down Nazi war criminals still in Germany, but soon changed
their focus to help smuggle Holocaust survivors into Palestine in defiance
of the British restrictions. This class, presented by the Al Katz Center, be-
gins at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom. Cost: $10 per day or $50 for all classes this

Mega Challah Bake Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Unite with women of all ages at this Mega Challah Bake with song and at Temple Emanu-El
dance led by Simone. Create your own challah! Refreshments will be
served. This event, open to girls and women ages nine and up, begins at
7:00 p.m. at The Grove, 10670 Boardwalk Loop Lane, Lakewood Ranch.

“A Physician’s Account of the Yom Kippur War”
This fascinating, important presentation by Itzhak Brook, M.D. – entitled
“In the Sands at Sinai: A Physician’s Account of the Yom Kippur War”
– describes the history of the Yom Kippur War and its effects on Israeli
society. Dr. Brook will also recount his experiences as a battalion physician,
addressing the traumas his soldiers endured, the cost of war in human
life and suffering, and the daily struggle for survival in this war which
threatened Israel’s existence. All are warmly invited to this free Temple
