I am pleased to welcome everyone to this North Korean Human Rights Conference.
T ank you to everyone who helped organize this event and provide an opportunity for a
very important discussion on the human rights situation in North Korea.

As Chairwoman of the House Foreign Af airs Subcommittee on the Indo-Pacif c, I’m
working to ensure the United States promotes human rights for the people of North
Korea, confronts North Korea on its horrendous human rights abuses, and continues to
be a beacon for hope, freedom and democracy.

I introduced the North Korean Human Rights Reauthorization Act of 2023, so the
United States takes concrete steps to counter the North Korean regime and supports
human rights for the people of North Korea including supporting the f ow of news and
information to North Koreans and reuniting Korean Americans with war-torn loved
ones. T ank you all again for all that you are doing to raise awareness of North Korea’s
continuing human rights violations and work towards solutions to support freedom and
liberty for the North Korean people. As one of the f rst Korean American women to be
elected in Congress, it is an honor to represent you and I wish you a successful conference.
