Dubai, UAE, 20 November 2024- The second day of the ninth edition of the Knowledge Summit,
organized by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) and the
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), offered a diverse range of insightful sessions
focused on AI applications and their practical implementation in personal and professional
contexts.
During a session titled ‘Redefining Knowledge in the Age of Synthetic Reality’, Walter Pasquarelli,
Advisor, Researcher, and Speaker on GenAI Policy, delved into the evolution of knowledge
acquisition in the age of technological advancements, exploring the opportunities and challenges
presented by artificial intelligence in learning and training.
Pasquarelli spoke about the major transformation achieved by AI in the world of knowledge,
emphasizing that it has created a new knowledge reality that facilitates faster and more accurate
access to information. He pointed out that knowledge is the primary tool for understanding the
world, explaining that the Internet has opened up unprecedented horizons for exploring the world
with a single click. He stated that since 2022, AI has witnessed tremendous growth, attracting
more than 100 million users in just three months, leading to a large influx of investments in this
field, facilitating access to information and providing more opportunities for advanced
investments.
He predicted that AI would constitute about 90% of global digital content by 2030, while warning
about the potential dangers of deepfakes and the social confusion they might create, making it
difficult to differentiate between truth and falsehood. He also emphasized that the concept of
truth in the AI era is changing radically, highlighting the importance of verifying the authenticity
of the content viewed on screens before accepting it as fact.
