The UAE's Sports Revolution: Transforming Federations for a Brighter Future

As the world spins on its axis, nations strive to evolve, to transform and to progress.
In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the General Authority for Sports (GAS) is
leading a transformative initiative that promises to reshape the sports landscape of
the country, setting the stage for a new era. The ‘Transformation of Sports

Federations’ project, a cornerstone of the National Sports Strategy 2031, aims to
redefine the governance and performance of sports federations, hone athletes’ skills,
and activate performance agreements with priority sports federations.

First Phase: The Chosen Six
The project has kicked off with a focus on six sports federations: archery, judo,
shooting, fencing, athletics, and cycling. Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum,
Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at GAS, emphasized the
importance of this initiative during a meeting with representatives from these six
federations. In his words, it’s a mission to enhance the operational and technical

capabilities of sports federations, in alignment with the objectives of the National
Sports Strategy 2031.

The strategy includes building effective leadership, defining strategic plans, and
establishing a productive system with administrative and technical knowledge.
Beyond that, GAS is committed to providing strategic, administrative, and financial
support to these federations, enabling them to stand on their own feet, financially
independent and capable.
