Dubai: Dubai Police distributed more than 325,250 iftar meals to motorists from the beginning of
the month until the 25th day, as part of the “Ramadan Without Accidents” campaign.
The initiative aims to raise awareness about safe driving behaviour, especially during the moments
leading up to Maghrib (sunset), when haste often results in risky driving.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic, explained that
the Traffic Awareness Department implemented the initiative in cooperation with multiple partners,
including Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Civil Defence, Supreme Legislation Committee,
Emirates Red Crescent, Dubai Charity Association, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Digital Authority,
Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Hemaya International Centre, Emarat Al Youm, Aster
Group, Listerine Group, Med7 Pharmacy, and Life Pharmacy. As many as 375 volunteers took part in
the drive.
Al Mazrouei noted that there is a noticeable spike in traffic violations and accidents during iftar
time, with many drivers speeding or jumping red lights in an attempt to reach their destination
before the call to prayer.
He emphasised the importance of planning ahead, following traffic rules, and exercising patience
and self-control, especially during this spiritually significant time.
“Arriving late and safe is better than not arriving at all,” he stressed.
