Dubai Municipality has implemented new artificial intelligence technology at its Central Laboratory which can detect
Legionella pulmonary bacteria.
Legionella causes respiratory diseases and this is the first such system in the region.
The method identifies live bacteria colonies accurately to 99 percent of the time. It also quantifies bacterial counts,
allowing faster testing as fewer lab supplies are needed, according to a statement by the Dubai Media Office. Results
are typically available within 48 hours compared to 14 days with traditional methods, the statement added.
