Eng. Hind Mahmoud Ahmed, Director of Dubai Central Laboratory Department, said the municipality is committed to
developing digital infrastructure and cutting-edge systems. This improves Dubai’s health and safety system.
The new technology furthers the goal of globally recognised standards for lab certification and public wellbeing.
“This revolutionary method of detecting the Legionella pulmonary bacteria is among the latest to be accredited
globally by the European Water Testing Network. It also has a certificate of recognition from AOAC International.
The technology is very accurate and quick to produce results, typically needing 48 hours as opposed to the 14 days
that traditional methods require,” Hind said.
Over 100,000 microbiological analyses are conducted yearly on food, water and consumer goods to ensure Dubai
market safety. Research and development ensures responding promptly to different situations.
