3/14/24, 2:05 PM Dubai Government announces Ramadan work hours for government employees
government services.
From Monday to Thursday, government employees are required to adhere to a modified
working schedule, commencing work at 9 am and concluding at 2:30 pm. This adjustment
aims to accommodate the religious observances and fasting practices associated with
Ramadan, allowing employees to manage their professional responsibilities effectively
while also attending to their spiritual obligations.
On Fridays, which hold particular significance during Ramadan, the working hours have
been further adjusted. Employees are expected to work from 9 am to 12 pm, providing
them with the opportunity to engage in additional religious activities and observances
during the day.
In recognition of the diverse needs and circumstances of government employees, the
Dubai Government Human Resources Department has introduced a flexible working
system and remote work policies for Fridays. This initiative enables government agencies
in the emirate to implement alternative working arrangements, including remote work, to
accommodate up to 70% of their total workforce.
By offering flexibility in working arrangements, government entities can effectively manage
their operational requirements while supporting employees in balancing their professional
duties with personal and religious commitments during Ramadan. This approach
underscores the government's commitment to promoting employee well-being and
ensuring inclusivity in the workplace.
Moreover, the directive emphasizes the importance of maintaining the efficiency and
effectiveness of government services, particularly those that involve serving the public or
managing public service facilities. Government agencies are tasked with devising
appropriate working schedules tailored to the operational needs of their respective
departments, thereby ensuring the seamless delivery of essential services to the
community.
