11/14/24, 12:45 PM UAE Reports Surge in Intellectual Property Registrations in 2024
Demand for IP protection has grown substantially, with 1,946 new applications received,
marking a 53.23% rise from last year’s 1,270. Additionally, 153 reports of IP violations were
filed, and 209 applications for registering importers and distributors of IP rights were
processed, reflecting a 26.67% increase.
As of September 2024, the UAE has attracted 18,175 new trademarks, a 39% increase
from the previous year. The Ministry processed 24,258 trademark applications and
received 8,171 trademark inquiries, bringing the total active trademarks in the UAE to
356,408.
The growth in patents, utility certificates, and industrial designs saw a rise of 8%, bringing
the total number to 15,051 by September. Registration applications for these categories
increased by 3.8%, totaling 3,489 submissions.
Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, attributed the
growth to the UAE’s robust IP ecosystem, which aligns with global standards and supports
the country’s economic vision. This growth is part of the UAE’s broader efforts to enhance
competitiveness and foster a knowledge-based economy, in line with the 'We the UAE
2031' vision.
