General Authority of Sports and UAE Volleyball Association
discuss adoption of governance promotion agendas
UAE, July 5 , 2022- H.E Sheikh Suhail Bin Butti Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Sports

Development Sector at the General Sports Authority, met with high-ranking officials of the UAE
Volleyball Association to discuss the Association’s strategy and future agendas to improve the
game of volleyball in the UAE. H.E Abdullah Al Darmaki, President of the UAE Volleyball
Association (UAE VBA) Board; Osama Qarqash, Vice president of UAE VBA; Jamal Al
Matroushi, Vice President for Internal Representation; and Abdulaziz Salman, Secretary General
of the Association; in the presence of Abdulaziz Al Hossan Al Shamsi, Managing Director of
Competitive Sports, were present at the meeting. The meeting saw the officials explore means to
improve the national team’s performance in order to enable them to achieve more victories in
regional and international championships.
Furthermore, discussions were held on strategies to promote governance in administrative work,
increase the number of championships for all categories, development of beach volleyball,
encouraging competitiveness of volleyball clubs, and the expansion of collaboration with
government and private entities.
H.E. said: “We support the efforts by the association in outlining the future strategy and agenda
for promoting administrative governance in the field of volleyball in the UAE. These efforts fall
in line with the government’s vision for the sector and the General Sports Authority’s aspirations
in this regard, with governance being one the key pillars. We are committed to supporting the
Association’s goals to encourage competitiveness in the field and improve our national team’s
performance, thereby enabling them to secure more victories.”
He added: “We laud the Association’s efforts to develop mechanisms to discover and promote
sports talent in the country. We look forward to its future collaborations with various governmental
