4/2/25, 3:08 PM UAE says supply chain access is key to economic growth
Leading the UAE delegation, His Excellency Juma Al Kait, Assistant Undersecretary for
International Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Economy, emphasised the UAE’s alignment
with South Africa’s G20 priorities, particularly in advancing Africa’s structural

transformation and supporting the African Continental Free Trade Area.

He also highlighted the UAE’s trade agreements with five African nations and ongoing
discussions aimed at expanding free trade and investment opportunities.

Additionally, His Excellency Al Kait underscored the UAE’s role in regional value chains

through its Africa Economic Corridor Strategy, supported by key initiatives from Abu
Dhabi Ports and DP World in developing integrated logistics solutions.

        The green transition

The UAE’s commitment to a just green transition was also spotlighted, emphasising the
importance of sustainable and environmentally friendly industry practices. His

Excellency Al Kait showcased the UAE’s green industrialization efforts, which have seen
over $16.8 billion invested in renewable energy projects across 70 countries, most of
        them in the developing world.

As the session wrapped up, the UAE stressed the importance of ensuring the WTO
fulfills its role as the custodian of the global trading system, particularly in addressing
economic disparities. The call for WTO reform is aimed at making global trade more

inclusive, ensuring that all nations, especially developing ones, have an equal
opportunity to benefit and ensuring that the global trading system works for everyone.

        South Africa’s G20 presidency

The Trade and Investment Working Group meeting, held virtually between March 18
and March 20, marked the first session under South Africa’s G20 presidency.

Three more working group meetings are scheduled before the Ministerial Meeting on

October 10 in Gqeberha, South Africa, and the G20 Presidential Meeting in
        Johannesburg the following month.

His Excellency Al Kait said, “It is incumbent on us to ensure the global trading system is
inclusive and accessible, especially as we confront a rapidly evolving trading

        landscape.”
